Point Cloud Surveys

Survey Operations were early users of laser scanning technology in the UK and have continually invested in the Leica HDS laser scanning range of equipment. Therefore, this investment has allowed us to achieve accuracy, speed and quality whilst working on numerous UK and European projects.

Point Cloud Production

Point Cloud Production

From our laser scanning field work, the fast collection of site data, of up to a million points of detail per second, can be provided to our experienced CAD department to create 3D modelling packages for our Architectural and Engineering client base.

The collection of data recorded, to an accuracy of +/-3mm, can be viewed as a ‘point cloud’ and is an exact representation of the laser-scanned subject. Due to this, the data is scanned remotely and allows the safe collection of inaccessible details. Therefore, health and safety issues are minimised with risks substantially lowered.

Revit Model Production

Using ‘point cloud’ data imported into numerous commercial software systems, such as Revit, Autocad, and Leica TruView. Therefore, the results of computer-generated 3D models can also be produced into traditional 2d drawings or as ‘fly-through’ animations.

Building Information Modelling

Building Information Modelling

Created by the government for the Digital Built Britain Strategy, BIM involves using digital methods to collaboratively manage information and data across the entire life of built environment assets.

BIM uses 3D computer models with attached data and information to connect and share information efficiently across the supply chain.

CAD Services

Survey Operations have provided cad services to our clients since the 1980s. Due to this, our range of cad services has grown as we have continued to invest in the latest software packages.

Point Cloud Surveys FAQs

A point cloud survey uses laser scanning technology to capture millions of data points from a surface or object. These points create a detailed 3D representation, useful for analysis, modelling, and design purposes.

Point cloud production involves processing raw data collected from laser scans or photogrammetry to generate a cohesive 3D point cloud. This process includes filtering, aligning, and refining data to produce accurate models for various applications.
