Highway surveying issues
Based on our experiences combining survey methods to suit a particular client’s need. We have recently turned our attention to remotely surveying highway sections to the highest possible accuracy.
Whilst several high-speed, dynamically positioned approaches have been developed, level accuracy is the limiting factor to the survey data’s usefulness. Although significant lengths of highway can be recorded in very short periods, level accuracies are limited to typically 2 to 3cm compared to traditional survey methods.
Mobile mapping
Our approach is Mobile Mapping to achieve typically 4mm repeatability, similar to traditional survey methods. Still, due to the intense coverage of the scanned carriageway, smaller localised level problems are more easily identified, can be accurately quantified, and monitored to isolate developing problems.
