Precise Surveying Services
Survey Operations have been commissioned by American Bridge Co. to provide precise surveying services for the new footbridge at Tintagel Castle in Cornwall.
The 12th century castle, Tintagel gained literary fame when Geoffrey of Monmouth named it as the place where King Arthur was conceived. The castle welcomes about 250,000 visitors every year.
English heritage oversee the bridge construction and say it will help people have a better understanding of the castle, improve access and help preserve and conserve the archaeology and ecology.
The bridge will be set 187ft (57M) above sea level and will consist of 2 independent cantilevers of around 30 metres in length that reach out and almost touch in the middle. It was designed by Ney & Partners and WIlliam Matthews Assocciates.
The surveying work involves accurately positioning the bridge piers in the vertical rock faces.
The bridge will open in summer 2019.
